Farmingdale Professor Picks ESPN Award Winners
June 20, 2016
For the second year running, Professor Sarbjit “Sab” Singh, a member of the sport management department here at FSC, has been one of five judges for sports network ESPN’s 2nd Annual Sports Humanitarian of the Year Awards.
The awards celebrate and honor leagues, teams, individuals, and members of the sporting community that are using the power of sport to make a positive impact on society. The event will be held July 12 in Los Angeles, and highlights will be broadcast on ESPN July 15, 7 p.m.
Professor Singh judged in four categories: Sports Humanitarian of the Year, Sports Humanitarian Team of the Year, Corporate Community Impact and League Humanitarian Award.
In addition to teaching sport management, Professor Singh also publishes a newsletter, Sports Doing Good. “Its goal is to showcase the good in sports and society,” he says. “It aims to celebrate those concepts, activities, events, and individuals by highlighting them for a wider audience. Much of the news today, whether sports-related or not, is incredibly negative and increasingly polarizing, biased, and quite annoying. We are trying to refocus some of the discussion on the good, with a focus on sports.”
