Memorial Gallery Presents: “Women’s Rights Are Human Rights”
October 20, 2020
A virtual exhibition titled “Women’s Rights Are Human Rights: International Posters for Gender-based Inequality, Violence, and Discrimination” is an on-going presentation presented by the Memorial Gallery. The exhibition runs via Facebook through November 30 and is curated by Elizabeth Resnick, Gallery Director.
This exhibition features 50 selected posters created by both men and women to celebrate and acknowledge the vital role that all citizens should play in protecting and promoting human rights while challenging gender inequality and stereotypes, advancing reproductive and sexual rights, protecting women and girls against brutality, and promoting women’s empowerment and participation in society. These poster images challenge religious and cultural norms and patriarchal attitudes that subordinate, stigmatize or restrict women from achieving their fullest potentials.
“Women’s Rights Are Human Rights: International Posters for Gender-based Inequality, Violence, and Discrimination” is accessible on the Visual Communications Facebook page. The exhibition will also be shared in collaboration with the Museum of Contemporary Art L.I. on their Patchogue Arts Council Facebook and Instagram pages.
