FSC Will Play in SUNY’s New Esports League

Attention esports fans: SUNY is partnering with Extreme Networks to launch the first-ever SUNY-wide esports league – and FSC’s championship-caliber team will be competing.

A fall league – opening date to be announced – will run five weeks, followed by an eight-week season in the spring. The league will consist of varsity and club teams. The Farmingdale State Esports club, comprised of 115 players, already competes in the ECAC against colleges in the northeast.

“We’re excited and eager to participate in the SUNY Esports League, and we can’t wait to show off everything that we’ve been practicing over the summer,” says club president Shane Gordon.

FSC will play the following games:

  • Rocket League
  • Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
  • Fortnite

“The SUNY esports league is another great opportunity for our students to showcase their talents and engage their fellow SUNY students in positive, fun competitions during these unique times,” says campus recreation director Jason Gant. “Given how well our team performed in the SUNY tournament in the spring, we are confident that we will once again show everyone the meaning of Farmingdale Strong!”

“SUNY is proud to partner with Extreme Networks to do something that we have never done: launch a system-wide esports league that can bring together students from all 64 campuses,” says Chancellor Jim Malatras. “As we navigate the coronavirus era, our students need safe avenues for connecting, building camaraderie with their classmates, and simply enjoying life. This new league will harness the growing talent and enthusiasm for esports across SUNY, to bring people together in a safe and socially distant way.”
