August 31, 2020
Dr. Barbara Christe, dean of the School of Engineering Technology, has published a new book.
Introduction to Clinical Engineering (Elsevier) is Dr. Christe’s third book. She has also contributed to two reference volumes.
“The pandemic has increased our awareness of health care dependence on devices, including ventilators,” Dr. Christe says. “My little-known profession of clinical engineering, whose workforce supports medical equipment, is emerging as the ‘greatest story rarely told.’ This book represents years of dedication and passion to the profession, supporting the safe and effective delivery of healthcare utilizing technology.”
Elsevier says about the book: “Introduction to Clinical Engineering focuses on the application of engineering practice within the healthcare delivery system, often defined as clinical engineering. Readers will explore the fundamental concepts integral to the support of healthcare technology to advance medical care.”
From the foreword by Lawrence W. Hertzler, CCE, AAMI Fellow: “What you will find as you read through this book, is that one of the truly great things about being a clinical engineer is that it is impossible to become bored. A clinical engineer serves to a large extent as a bridge between technology and medicine.”
