NSF Grant Funds S-STEM Scholarships for 2020-2021
August 24, 2020
Fourteen incoming freshman from LI high schools have been awarded $20,000 scholarships over their four years at FSC, thanks to a $1 million grant received last year from the National Science Foundation. Another sixteen students will be awarded scholarships for fall 2021.
According to Dr. Kerry Lutz, associate professor of Biology, the
S-STEM grant provides scholarships for academically talented, low-income students in STEM fields. The students must major in Applied Mathematics or Biology.
Scholarship money will be awarded to students regardless of any financial aid they receive from other sources. If a student’s tuition is covered by other aid, the $5,000 per-year NSF scholarship money may be used for transportation, meal plans, books, or other expenses.
