The National Association for Business Economics (NABE) has partnered with FSC to offer students the opportunity to earn NABE’s Certified Business Economist® professional certification shortly after they graduate with a BS in Applied Economics from FSC.

“We are very excited about our partnership with NABE’s Certified Business Economist program,” says Dr. Xu Zhang, chair and associate professor in the Department of Economics.

“Our Bachelor of Science in Applied Economics program trains students with necessary skills to meet the diverse needs of regional, national, and global employers in the public and private sectors. The partnership will motivate and better prepare our students to acquire up-to-date practical skills valued in the real business world, and continue their success through lifelong learning.”

Economics Department faculty reviewed and modified the Applied Economics curriculum to ensure the knowledge and skills valued in the market were covered. Students now have the opportunity to be certified after passing necessary exams and satisfying working experience requirements.
“It is a great opportunity to allow our students to differentiate themselves in the job market and network with professionals in the Applied Economics field,” says Dr. Zhang. “Additionally, our graduates will continue their success through the continuing education as part of the certification requirement.
“As most of our students are first-generation college students, I think they can be challenged, and differentiate themselves for a better job prospect.”
The NABE partnership is an initiative of Dr. Richard Vogel, dean of the School of Business. Among the 11 other institutions participating in the program are Boston College, Brandeis University, University of Connecticut, and The George Washington University.
