While graduating students await word of when and where FSC’s spring commencement will take place, the Biology Department in the School of Arts & Sciences had the idea to honor its grads here and now. Here’s what they told them.

“Dear Bioscience Graduates,

As you reach this enormous milestone, we in the Biology Department wish we could congratulate you on your graduation from the Bioscience Program in person. While the coronavirus pandemic is keeping us temporarily apart, at least we can share our messages with you virtually.

Please watch the following video, prepared and edited by Dr. Azad Gucwa, as a farewell tribute from all of us:

We are so proud of you, and can’t wait to find out what the future holds for you! Best of luck in all of your future endeavors!

Congratulations FSC Bioscience Class of 2020!!”

“In our last department meeting, the members of the Biology Department agreed that it would be important for us to recognize our Bioscience graduates,” says Dr. Sarah Gross, department chair. “We discussed holding a Zoom graduation, but in the end we decided that a video tribute would be the best approach to virtually honor the incredible accomplishments of our Bioscience graduates.”

The project belonged to Dr. Azad Gucwa, who collected photos and video footage from faculty and students, and created the video tribute.

“We wanted to do something special for our students in light of the current situation,” Dr. Gucwa says. “We decided to make a video tribute to celebrate them.  Nothing we could do could ever replace a traditional commencement ceremony.  However, we hope that the students realize how much we care for them, and that we are so proud of them and all that they’ve achieved.”
