STEM Diversity Summit Inspires Young Students to Learn Important Subjects
March 9, 2020
FSC is celebrating STEM education this month with the 10th Annual STEM Diversity Summit. Originally organized by Dr. Veronica Henry, retired from FSC and member of the board of the Farmingdale College Foundation, the event – which targets students from underrepresented communities – aims to connect student scholars with field scholars to meet three goals:
- Offer hands-on workshops
- Inspire intellectual curiosity in students
- Facilitate information-sharing of academic and professional opportunities
Says Dr. Nader about the STEM Diversity Summit: “Farmingdale State College is committed to providing access to high-quality programs and opportunities for students entering the STEM fields. Our diversity and inclusiveness are at the core of the College’s success. As host of the Summit, Farmingdale continues to work toward improving enrollment and student performance in both K-12 STEM programs and in higher education.”
STEM subjects – Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics – are considered fundamental elements in preparing students of the next generation.
Four members of the campus community are chairing the Summit. They include Dr. Bahar Zoghi, Assistant Dean, School of Engineering Technology; Dr. Kevin Jordan, Interim Vice President for Student Affairs and Chief Diversity Officer; Janice Rivera, Executive Director, Academic Support and Access Programs; and Dr. Erwin Cabrera, Director, RAM Program.
