Civil Engineering Technology Degree Coming Next Fall
February 17, 2020
Aspiring engineering technologists in the School of Engineering Technology, listen up. A new degree program – Civil Engineering Technology – debuts next fall.
A long time in the making, the program covers various aspects of infrastructure, including structures such as bridges and buildings; analysis of traffic flow; transportation and highways; management of construction of complex structures; and environmental issues such as clean drinking water, water treatment, water storage, and more.
“Our CET graduates will solve complex infrastructure problems, and provide solutions to society’s growing infrastructure needs,” says Dr. Barbara Christe, Dean of the School of Engineering Technology.
Naming the degree program had its challenges. Dr. Christe and Assistant Dean Bahar Zoghi advocated vigorously for the name as it exists today.
“The degree was approved in 2019 as Civil Technology. However, it is crucial to have the word ‘engineering’ in the title. That one word captures the focus of coursework and degree,” says Dr. Zoghi. “In the winter of 2020, SUNY leadership, including our provost, Laura Joseph, requested a name change to Civil Engineering Technology. This was granted, and we are super excited.”
