Vis Comm Senior Project Expo Shows Off Apps, Clothing, Food, and More
December 16, 2019
Nine graduating seniors from the Visual Communications/Art & Graphic Design department recently held a trade show of portfolios and projects at Senior Project Expo. On display were commercially viable and culturally significant projects realized through graphic, web, product, and motion design.
Students, faculty, alumni, and industry professionals attended the event. Robert Venezia’s “Hoot” – an app for tracking and managing college data – took first place.
“The Expo helps to build the students’ confidence at a critical moment in their career,” says Jennie Thwing, senior project professor and event coordinator. “The students showcase their best work and get feedback on their portfolios. This year’s class pitched their work to over 20 industry professionals. It was a great opportunity for the students to learn to talk about their work. They are better prepared to present their work in job interviews and field unexpected questions. The feedback they received helps them to understand what employers are looking for.”
Besides Venezia, other presenters included:
- Marie Anders – PaddleTrak, a kayaking app
- Michelle Baker – Kulture, a clothing line
- Jessica Gonzales – Boost Juice, natural vitamin booster shots
- Nicole Hagias – Vegago, plant-based ready-to-eat meals
- Caitlin Irwin – Bare, all-natural skin-care product
- Zachary Krepela – Kick Push, an app for longboard skaters
- Christina McGill – Artisan, a food-subscription box
- Kimberly Valdez-Soto, HypeBeat, an exercise-enhancement app
An exhibition of the students’ work appears at Memorial Gallery through 2/7, 2020. The gallery is in Hale Hall, open weekdays,
9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
