FSC Newcomers Speak Their Mind

A new Incoming Student Survey, conducted by FSC’s Office for Institutional Research, offers insight into what freshmen think about the College, what was important to them in choosing Farmingdale for their post-high school education, and their plans for their time at FSC. The survey was administered during orientation.
Below are highlights from the report.
- Farmingdale was the first choice of a record 62% of incoming freshmen.
- Proximity to home, courses and degrees offered, and cost were all were cited as being very influential in their decision to attend Farmingdale.
- Most incoming freshmen expressed optimism about graduating on time, despite the fact that 40% indicated it was very likely they would change their major.
- More than 80% of new students indicated it is at least somewhat likely they will utilize student services, such as the Tutoring Center, career counseling, financial aid advising, and academic advising. More than half indicated they are very likely to use these services.
- Despite the fact that nearly all new students plan be employed at least part-time while at FSC, 53% said it is very likely they will join a student club. Along with that, more students plan to participate in campus activities than at any other time in the past five years.
- 40% of respondents indicated they are very likely to study abroad, while another 24% indicated they are somewhat likely to study abroad, an increase over previous years. Similarly, the percentage of respondents indicating they are somewhat or very likely to participate in athletics increased to 64%.
