Addressing the Blight of Sexual Violence
Farmingdale State College’s Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, in collaboration with the Health and Wellness Center, is sponsoring a talk, “Inviting Dialogue: Sexual Violence and the Intersectionality of Race and Gender,” presented by keynote speaker Sarlé Jeffries.
One out of five women will be sexually assaulted during their time in college. Oppressed or marginalized identities often experience an even higher rate of rape, physical violence, and stalking by an intimate partner. Sarlé Jeffries shares how – as an individual with multiple protected characteristics, including ex-military status – she experienced a legal and social double-standard that failed to hold her attacker accountable. It’s a story of hope, courage, and resilience. The event shines a light on sexual violence and the intersectionality of race and gender.”
