50th Anniversary for LIEOC
The Long Island Educational Opportunity Center (LIEOC) is celebrating the dramatic growth in programs and success stories over the last four years, and debuting a new logo to celebrate its 50th anniversary.
LIEOC provides access to opportunity programs designed to help eliminate barriers to education faced by Nassau and Suffolk residents with economic and educational needs. It elevates the potential of New York’s under-served population by providing a statewide system of quality, tuition-free academic and workforce development programs. It offers more than 20 programs, including English language foundation, college preparation, high school equivalency preparation, and vocational classes in health care, computer technology, and business.
Dr. Elsa-Sofia Morote, Dean/Executive Director, says that in 2015 LIEOC served 1,057 students, and now has enrolled its largest class in 50 years, with 1,786. Dr. Morote adds, “More importantly, we serve more students, have high retention, and higher placement rates with the same budget!”
LIEOC’s new logo features a lighthouse with the letters EOC in a circle. The lighthouse serves as both an iconic symbol for Long Island and a beacon of light to guide EOC students along their path to success. The circle symbolizes continual movement without restriction, energy, and power.
