Save the Dates: Car Free Day LI 9/20 and FSC Rally 9/17
July 22, 2019
Car Free Day is an international event celebrated every September, in which people are encouraged to move around without cars, and instead ride a train, bus, bicycle, carpool, subway, or walk. This year, Long Island will join in by celebrating its 7th Annual Car Free Day on Friday, 9/20.
Car Free Day offers an opportunity to consider the negative impact of single-occupancy vehicles. Using cars less by using alternative modes such as transit, carpooling, bicycles, walking, and telecommuting helps reduce traffic, conserve energy, reduce harmful emissions, reduce parking problems, and save money.
To participate, all you have to do is pledge to be car-free or car-lite on September 20, by filling out the pledge form. Once you pledge, you’ll automatically be entered for a chance to win prizes. Already car-free? Then you’ll get the same chance to win prizes when you fill out the pledge form.
Last year, Car Free Day was celebrated in nearly 2,800 cities in 54 countries.
Also, set aside Tuesday, 9/17 for a Car Free Day rally at 11 a.m. in the Campus Center Lobby. Farmingdale has participated in this event for the past six years, and our participation has shown a dramatic increase year to year. Help us move the needle again this year. And don’t forget to fill out the pledge form.
