Chancellor’s Award Winners, Part 2
June 17, 2019
Last issue we promised updates on more of our 10 Chancellor’s Award for Excellence winners. Here are three more:
Excellence in Teaching
Dr. Lori Goodstone, Chair of the Nursing Department and Associate Professor
Dr. Goodstone joined the FSC faculty in 2008. The Selection Committee said of her: “Lori considers her role of teacher as an extension of her nursing practice. She clearly values the human experience and treats her patients as if they were her own family. It is with this guiding philosophy and belief that she teaches her students the principles of nursing.” A former student explained: “Dr. Goodstone is an incredible instructor; she is incredibly knowledgeable and continuously pushes us to go the extra mile. I wish I could have her for the rest of the required nursing classes.”
Excellence in Faculty Service
Louis Scala, Associate Professor, Aviation Department
Professor Scala has been teaching at Farmingdale since 1982. Said the Scholarship Committee: “Although he has excelled in all the three areas of teaching, scholarship and service, he has particularly established excellence in the area of service. Professor Scala has continually volunteered to do whatever tasks were necessary to promote Farmingdale and to be of service to the College in any capacity needed.” In line with his service mentality, he is a member of the Artists and Lecturers Program and advisor to the student Christian Fellowship. He is also advisor to the FSC chapter of the American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE). In his own words, Professor Scala said: “My philosophy is that a true servant is a person who exhibits the characteristics of a parent, coach, and professional/spiritual mentor.”
Excellence in Adjunct Teaching
Kim Wild, Adjunct Associate Professor, Visual Communications Department
The best way to describe Professor Wild is through the eyes of one of her students: “Professor Wild is an extremely passionate, dedicated, and simultaneously good-natured, yet no-nonsense, professor who infuses her courses with content that is both engaging and challenging. However, what is most impressive, and valuable, about Professor Wild’s teaching is her knowledge of graphic design.” In addition to her excellence in the classroom, Professor Wild, a freelance graphic designer, displays her work across Long Island. She also works as main coordinator of the department’s Senior Project Expo. Professor Wild earned degrees in Visual Communications and Advertising Art and Design at Farmingdale.
