Five Receive SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence
April 30, 2019
Five FSC students have won the coveted Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence.
The Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence was created in 1997 to recognize students who have best demonstrated, and been recognized for, the integration of academic excellence with accomplishments in the areas of leadership, athletics, community service, creative and performing arts, campus involvement or career achievement.
This year’s winners are:
Messiah Gaymon ’19, Science, Technology and Society
Messiah is president of the Student Government Association, and will be graduating in this spring. He is the recipient of the Farmingdale State College Award for Student Leadership, and the 2017 winner of the campus Veteran of the Year.
Jamie Jones ’19, Architectural Engineering Technology
Jamie is an international student from England. He has been on the President’s List every semester, and is a member of the Golden Key and Epsilon Pi Tau Honor Societies. Jamie is a four-year member of the college’s golf team, and vice president of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee.
Lily Moldan ’19, Criminal Justice-Law Enforcement Technology
In addition to her stellar success in the classroom, Lily is an integral student leader on campus. Working with the Dean of Students office, Lily helped shape campus orientation procedures and led campus initiatives around issues of Title IX compliance.
Jennifer Newins ’18, Medical Laboratory Technology
Jennifer is a fall 2018 graduate, finishing with a 3.8 GPA. She also received the departmental Academic Excellence Award, and held several leadership roles in student organizations.
Luke Rossi ’18, Bioscience
Luke graduated in the fall of 2018, and earned a 3.95 GPA. He is so well liked that the Biology Department hired him as an instructional support technician.
“Our award recipients emerged from their campus this year as the top scholars, athletes, performers, and achievers, as well as a tremendous source of inspiration,” said SUNY Chancellor Kristina M. Johnson. “The students being recognized made the choice to be leaders on their campus, prioritize their studies, and serve their communities. Congratulations to this year’s awardees, and I applaud you for pursuing excellence in all that you do.”
