March 11, 2019
Dr. Yetunde Odugbesan-Omede, Department of History, Geography and Political Science, recently spoke at the Diversity in STEM Conference organized by SUNY Global Center and United Nations Association of New York Commission on Education. The purpose of the conference was to examine the importance of the inclusion of all genders and cultures in ensuring that everyone’s experiences will inform and guide the direction of STEM innovation for the future benefit of all.
Said Dr. Odugbesan-Omede, “I spoke about the importance of exposing students to STEM programs and studies, but also the need of having diverse faculty in institutions of higher education to ensure students from diverse populations are able to see themselves in and out of the classroom. Representation and exposure are the two main ingredients for ensuring the achievement of gender equality and equity in the STEM fields.”
