“Girl Power in STEM” Symposium at Stony Brook U.
“Girl Power in STEM: Think Equal, Build Smart, Innovate for Change!” is a symposium hosted by Stony Brook University, as part of the university’s International Women’s Day Celebration.
The goal of the symposium is to promote the participation, and celebrate the accomplishments of women in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) fields. Lecturers and panelists from academia, government, and the private sector will discuss the impact of women in STEM careers, and what each person can do to promote and sustain women’s participation in STEM fields.
Sessions will include professional development talks and discussions for up-and-coming and mid-career professionals in STEM fields, as well as panels and presentations of interest to anyone from the middle-school level and up. There will also be parallel networking sessions during which attendees can participate in a ‘Speed Networking’ session, where audience members will have the opportunity to have three-minute one-on-one conversations with speakers and panelists; Topic Table sessions where attendees can meet professionals in small groups; science demonstrations where attendees can view STEM demonstrations led by experts in the field; and a poster session where attendees can learn about STEM research being performed.
