“Public Safety, Private Harm: The Impact of Police Militarization on Crime and Well-being” is the title of a lecture to be given by Dr. David Vitt, assistant professor in the economics department.
According to Dr. Vitt, “I explore the impact of transferring surplus military equipment to law enforcement on crime and suicide. I find that the equipment enhances productivity and community safety by reducing crime, and that there is a corresponding decrease in suicide on account of the increased sense of safety.” For more information, contact Natalie Walsh; 631-794-6208.
