RAM Scholar Speaks on #MeTooandBeyond Panel
April 9, 2018
Hannah Ventaloro, RAM scholar and president of the Love over Hate club, spoke recently on a #MeTooandBeyond panel at the Long Island Women’s Diversity Summit.
In her Instagram post following the event, Ventaloro said: “I represented the women who experienced sexual violence on campuses and talked about the fact that sexual violence is not brought to the attention of county police because campuses want to keep the situation an internal issue. They think about how they look to press rather than how the victim feels. A classic way of ruining the life of a victim who experiences rape or sexual violence. Maybe if high schools…talked about rape earlier, we wouldn’t be having these discussions.”
“We in the RAM program are so proud of Hannah, a sophomore year RAM scholar, who represented the student voice on this panel,” said Dr. Erica J. Friedman, assistant director of the RAM program. “She discussed many of the important ways in which educational institutions can contribute to minimizing sexual harassment and violence, such as earlier sex education in schools that covers topics like consent, and more publicity around the frequent instances of sexual assault that occurs on college campuses.”
