Dr. David Vitt Wins “Best Conference Paper”
February 26, 2018
Dr. David Vitt, assistant professor of economics, won “Best Conference Paper” at the 55th Annual Meeting of the Academy of Economics and Finance, held recently in Houston.
The co-authored paper was based on Dr. Vitt’s research on the social costs of gun ownership.
“In the paper, we provide evidence of a causal relationship between the availability of guns and the rate of firearms suicide,” Dr. Vitt said. “We find that a 10% increase in gun ownership within a state causes a 3% increase in firearm suicides that would not have otherwise occurred.”
