Diversity Matters… on Campus and in the Healthcare Workforce
February 12, 2018
Friday, 4/6, 8:15 a.m. – 3 p.m. Campus Center Ballroom
The goal of this conference on diversity in health care and health education is to improve understanding of factors associated with healthcare disparities, by educating faculty, students, nurses and nurse educators about the relationship between lack of diversity among healthcare workers, lack of diverse health professions students, and inadequate access to healthcare by minority populations.
Keynote speaker is Capt. Beverly A. Dandridge, U.S. Public Health Service Liaison Officer for Commissioned Corps officers assigned to the Department of Homeland Security. Concerned about the health disparities accentuated by America’s growing cultural diversity, Capt. Dandridge mentors individuals interested in health care professions through STEM programs and general public health educational forums.
Other speakers include:
- Dr. Peggy Valentine, dean and professor at the School of Health Sciences at Winston-Salem State University
- Dr. Launette Woolforde, Vice President for Nursing Education and Professional Development at Northwell Health, and assistant professor at the Hofstra-Northwell School of Medicine
There is no cost to register. The conference is funded by SUNY Explorations in Diversity and Academic Excellence Grant.
