Fight the Flu… and Win!
January 29, 2018
This is the worst flu season on record since
New York State began tracking data in 2004. With that in mind, FSC’s Health and Wellness Center has recommendations on how to address this health crisis.
- It’s not too late to get your flu shot. The Centers for Disease Control report the vaccine is effective in stopping approximately 30% of the strains currently circulating. A flu shot will reduce the severity of symptoms, even if the immunization is not a complete match to the strain you are infected with. To help, Rite-Aid pharmacy will be on campus this Thursday, 2/1, from 10:30 a.m. –
2:30 p.m., giving flu shots in the Campus Center. This opportunity to fight back against the flu is open to all students and staff. There is no out-of- pocket cost if you have a current health insurance card. - Practice good hand hygiene. Wash your hands with soap and water often, and avoid touching your face without washing your hands first. Carry an alcohol-based hand sanitizer for when you are unable to wash your hands.
- If you think you have the flu, see a doctor immediately. There are medications that can help reduce the severity of symptoms, along with shortening the time you may feel sick. Contact your doctor or the Health and Wellness Center for an appointment if you think you have the flu.
- If you are diagnosed with the flu, don’t come to school until 24 hours after your fever has subsided.
