Dr. Tino Posillico on Cyber Security Crime Prevention
January 2, 2018
Dr. Tino Posillico, associate professor, criminal justice/security systems & law enforcement technology, spoke recently on cyber technology and cyber security crime prevention at “The News Conference: Real & Powerful,” an event that brought the best in journalism, business, community, academia and government together with community leaders to discuss the biggest stories of the day, build mutual understanding, and illustrate the importance of speaking truth to power.
Dr. Posillico was part of a panel that addressed the threat of fake news to the legitimacy of credible news organizations, and sophisticated cyber hacks of social media platforms. The panel also examined the vulnerabilities that allow public opinion to be manipulated, and how society can use countermeasures to overcome fake news. Speakers engaged the audience in discussions about trustworthiness of sources; political and private influences; social media effects; authentication; intrusion detection systems; Internet neutrality; and secure centralized and certified database exchange.
The event was sponsored by the Fair Media Council, a Long Island group that advocates for variety in news and information in the market and the public’s right to know, and assesses the performance of the local media.
