“CSI” Meets FSC
October 30, 2017
Forensic evidence in solving crimes has been a primary plot point in TV police shows ever since CSI:Crime Scene Investigation hit the airwaves 17 years ago. Now it’s your turn to view a realistic mock crime scene investigation, featuring incriminating fingerprints, blood splatter, curious bystanders, evidence contamination and more.
Led by Dr. David Byrne, Department of Criminal Justice, and students from CRJ201/Criminalistics, the interactive “crime scene” is designed to engage students by going beyond lectures to a hands-on experience. Students will use authentic investigative equipment to collect evidence, document findings and interview witnesses.
“Since many of my students join the ranks of police officers upon graduation, they are better prepared for the job,” Dr. Byrne says. “Skills involved in interviewing witnesses, analyzing details, and teamwork add a critical component to the safety and attainment of their goals in law enforcement.”
The event is scheduled for Tuesday, 11/7, 5:55 – 8 p.m. in Sinclair Hall Pit.
Students, staff and faculty are invited to join “the cast.” For more information email david.byrne@farmingdale.edu
