Kids Learning Spanish at The Children’s Center

Kids at The Children’s Center are getting a leg up in our multi-cultural world by being taught Spanish by FSC students. Toddlers, Pre-School and Pre-K children are kids at the Children's Centerlearning a second language, in a program that’s run in conjunction with FSC’s Department of Modern Languages.

And, says Stacey Albitz, director of The Children’s Center, it is the only project of its kind on Long Island.

The program had a soft launch last spring semester, but officially kicked off this fall. The children are currently learning how to speak numbers and colors, taught by pairs of students from Dr. Qing Ai’s Spanish 141 class.

Says Dr. Ai: “As a pilot of applied learning on campus, we are excited to have this opportunity for students to have a hands-on learning experience and conduct community service. We are also excited to see children exposed to a second-language environment at an ideal age, which will undoubtedly benefit them to become global citizens in the future.”

And moms of the children are thrilled with the teaching sessions too. Says Becky Camera: “The program has taught my daughter to count and sing in Spanish. She loves it and asks if it’s Spanish day every day!”
