Hundreds Went Car-less for Car Free Day LI
October 2, 2017
Though FSC’s annual Car Free Day Rally was
canceled this year due to the weather, but that didn’t stop more than 500 members of the FSC community from pledging to go car-free for international Car Free Day. Not bad for a commuter school.
The event was an Island-wide success too, with nearly 7,000 Long Islanders going car-free or car-lite, using alternatives to driving alone such as car pooling, mass transit and bicycles. Car Free Day participants saved 134,000 miles of single-driver miles and 67 tons of CO2 emissions.
There were more than 4,000 pledges at academic institutions across the Island, including Adelphi, Stony Brook, and Suffolk Community College. That number was a 100% increase over 2016.
