Electric Car Maker Tesla Teams with FSC for Jobs Program
September 5, 2017
Electric car maker Tesla has teamed with the automotive technology department in the School of Engineering Technology for a new classroom-to-job pipeline program that will mean internships for auto tech students that will fast track them for full-time employment upon graduation.
Announced at a press conference last week at Tesla’s Hauppague facility, the car maker operates similar programs in other regions, but this is the first of its kind on Long Island.
“Great jobs in automotive technology and sustainable transportation do exist on Long Island,” President Nader said, “but we need more of them. By offering our students internships that have a likelihood of leading to rewarding careers, Tesla is closing this loop.”
“The collaboration with Tesla will create a path for our students between their post-secondary studies and a meaningful career,” said Dr. Mohamad Zoghi, acting chair of the automotive technology department. “In turn, the Long Island region will benefit from the economic expansion associated with a diverse, expertly trained, and locally produced workforce.”
The event was also attended by New York State Senate Majority Leader John Flanagan, and State Senators Carl Marcellino and Tom Croci. Said Senator Flanagan: “Tesla and Farmingdale State College share a powerful commitment to bettering Long Island.”
