Farmingdale Alumna a Real Life Saver
July 24, 2017
Farmingdale alumna Doreen Moran ’94 was in the news recently for saving the life of a two-year-old neighbor who had fallen into the family pool.
“I reacted quickly when I saw the unconscious child,” Officer Moran said. “The advantage I have is that I am a Port Authority Police Officer, and therefore highly trained and a certified First Responder. It’s what we are trained to do.”
Moran, a 10-year veteran of the Port Authority Police, is assigned to JFK airport. She had just returned to her Long Island home from her shift, when she heard screaming from her neighbor’s yard. She and her husband raced to the scene, where Moran performed CPR on the unconscious toddler while someone dialed 911. The boy began breathing just as the Merrick Fire Department arrived. He was taken to Nassau County Medical Center for treatment.
Last week Moran was honored for her heroic effort by the Port Authority Board of Commissioners.
Moran studied liberal arts at FSC, and was a member of the women’s basketball team. She is assigned to the Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighter Unit at JFK, and holds FAA certification.
Doreen, we’re proud of you!
