FSC Staff, Students Join NYC Pride March
July 10, 2017
Dr. Erica Friedman, Assistant Project Director of FSC’s RAM Program, along with FSC students Nicole Nunez and Hannah Ventaloro, joined 400 other SUNY students, faculty, staff and alumni at last month’s NYC Pride March. The group displayed the SUNY colors on its float to show the system’s solidarity with the LGBTQ community.
“The Pride March was a truly wonderful experience,” says Dr. Friedman. “The weather was perfect, the crowds were super supportive and cheerful, and overall it was a day of positivity, happiness and love. Hannah and Nicole many times expressed how much fun they were having and how good it was to see and be a part of such a supportive atmosphere. The event inspired us all.”
“SUNY’s annual participation in the NYC Pride March is a celebration of our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion and to ensuring that SUNY continues to be a place where all are welcome to live, to work, and to learn,” said Chancellor Nancy Zimpher. “We are proud to bring the SUNY family together for the event again this year, and to celebrate the LGBTQ community in solidarity with the great State of New York.”
Said Chancellor-elect Dr. Kristina Johnson: “Each of SUNY’s 64 campuses represent the system’s founding promise to all New Yorkers – to provide safe, welcoming communities that foster student learning, innovation, and success.” This across-the-board commitment to being the most inclusive system of higher education in the country is one of the many attributes that attracted me to SUNY and I look forward to seeing so many participants show off their ‘SUNY Pride’ this weekend and year-round.”
