Inaugural Tree Planting

POSTPONED  as of 4/5/17

Thursday, 4/6, 11 a.m.   Lawn in front of Horton Hall

The campus community is invited to a tree planting ceremony to commemorate the inauguration of Farmingdale State College’s ninth president, Dr. John S. Nader.

Chair of the Urban Horticulture and Design Department, Dr. Jonathan Lehrer, has secured a donation of a Swamp White Oak.

Under ideal conditions, the tree will grow to 60-75 feet tall and, according to Dr. Lehrer,  is the species utilized around the 9/11 memorial in front of Horton Hall.

The tree was donated by Half Hollow Nursery in Dix Hills through the efforts of Alan Rasweiler, ’77.

A commemorative plaque has been affixed to a large campus rock so future generations will know of its origin. Those in attendance may add a shovel-full of dirt.

Please note: the event will be postponed and re-scheduled in the event of heavy rain and/or lightning.
