Buzzer Beater Wins It! Men’s BB Team NCAA Bound
February 27, 2017
Down 21 points in the first half, 14 at the half, and tied with five seconds left. What happened next would turn the Rams into Skyline Conference champions and send them to Middlebury College in Vermont this Friday, March 3, in the first round of the NCAA Division III Men’s Basketball Tournament.
With just one precious second left, forward George Riefenstahl, fed under the basket by guard Ali Mableton, scored the winning layup that sealed the deal at 77-75 over second-ranked Sage.
“In my 25 years at Farmingdale State College, that was the most exciting game I have ever seen,” said FSC Athletic Director Tom Azzara. “The atmosphere was electric, and what a perfect way to christen our brand new gymnasium. We are so proud of the team and coaches and wish them the best of luck at the upcoming NCAA tournament.”
Riefenstahl finished the game with 16 points, just two behind guard Matthew Graham, who finished with 18 and was the named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player. Guard Liam Monoghan pumped in 14 and had a team-high five assists.
This is the Ram’s first trip to the NCAA tournament since the 2011-2012 season.
