Civic engagement is the theme; the film My Block: Strong Island Part Two is the main attraction; DuWayne Gregory, presiding officer of the Suffolk County Legislature is the featured speaker; and the new Black Student Union celebrates its debut – all at one event that is part of FSC’s observance of Black History Month.

It all happens this Thursday, February 23, from 6 – 9 p.m. at the Roosevelt Hall Little Theater. Highlights of the evening include:

  • A conversation with Legislator Gregory, who will discuss his life and history of civil engagement
  • Screening of  My Block: Strong Island Part Two, a film by award winner Jordan Crafton that documents the African American migration on Long Island
  • A panel discussion about the film, featuring Jordan Crafton; John Crafton, who is featured in the film; local community activist Eugene Burnett; and Hofstra University Professor Dr. David Byre-Tyre.

The event is sponsored by the Office of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion; TRiO; EOP; and the Black Student Union.  For more information, email thomasae@farmingdale.edu or call 631-794-6276.
