Dr. Eleanor Fapohunda School of Arts and Sciences Colloquium Series Event

Thursday, 2/23, 10:50 a.m. – 12:05 p.m.,  University Club, Knapp Hall

Dr. Matthew Brown, Department of Sociology and Anthropology, will present “Childhood Morbidity and Mortality in the Late Roman World, a Bioarchaeological and Paleopathological Perspective” at the next event in the Dr. Eleanor Fapohunda School of Arts & Sciences Colloquium Series.

Disease, sickness, and death do not occur in a vacuum. Instead, they are intimately intertwined within the cultural framework of a given society. This talk explores the morbidity and mortality of children from the Roman capital city of Sirmium, Serbia, between the 1st and 6th century CE, through paleopathological, bioarchaeological and chemical analysis of skeletal and dental tissues.
