Governor Appoints FSC Police Chief to New Post
January 3, 2017
Marvin Fischer, Chief of FSC’s University Police, has been named by Governor Andrew Cuomo to chair the NYS Law Enforcement Accreditation Council.
Chief Fischer will preside over an agency that evaluates state law enforcement agencies that apply for accreditation or re-accreditation. The goal of the council is to help police agencies evaluate and improve overall performance. It provides formal recognition that an organization meets or exceeds general expectations of quality in the field.
“Accreditation sets a base line for policy and procedures that tell the public that the law enforcement agency exhibits professionalism,” says Chief Fischer. “Being in an academic environment, I understand the importance of accreditation and how programs need to meet established standards.”
How Chief Fischer will fit this latest responsibility into his already-demanding schedule is anybody’s guess. He already serves on the Board of Governors of the New York State Association of Chiefs of Police; as President of the Chiefs of Police Association of Suffolk County; and Policy Board Chair of the State University Police Chiefs Association.
It must be because he is a Farmingdale alumnus.
