FSC Aviation Students Present Research at Harvard Medical School Conference
January 3, 2017
It may seem like an odd juxtaposition – FSC aviation students giving a presentation at a conference at Harvard Medical School – but it all makes sense when you understand the research the students are engaged in.
It was at the International Journal of Arts and Sciences Conference that – under the tutelage of Dr. Ramon-Osvaldo Gonzalez, assistant professor in the aviation department – five aviation administration majors gave a presentation titled “Airport Accessibility for Disabled Passengers: A Day-to-Day Struggle.”
The focus of the research involves examining accessibility problems at five U.S. airports. Using the Americans with Disabilities Act as the baseline, the students determined that accessibility at Miami International, John Wayne, San Francisco International, Sacramento International and Burbank airports – and likely many others – must be improved. Their research was done for Dr. Gonzalez’s Aviation Safety Ethics class.
Dr. Gonzalez presented as well, and submitted his students’ research for publication. It is currently under review.
The student researchers are:
- Fadiagne Tall
- Ghafar Kassim
- Mekel Phillips
- Thomas Christel
