Dr. Beverly Kahn Wins Award for Work with 1st-year Students
December 19, 2016
There is no greater advocate for FSC freshman than Dr. Beverly Kahn, and now, in recognition of her work on their behalf, she is receiving the Outstanding First-Year Student Advocacy Award from the National Resource Center for The First-Year Experience & Students in Transition at the University of South Carolina.
Dr. Kahn is the only winner from a New York State academic institution. She was nominated for the honor by Acting Provost and VP for Academic Affairs, Dr. Laura Joseph, who in her letter to the awards committee said: “Dr. Kahn’s work in the area of first-year student advocacy has led to multiple initiatives at Farmingdale State College that have impacted the way in which we support and engage students.
“Dr. Kahn is truly deserving of this special recognition. Through her passion and vision, she has advanced our institution and has had a remarkable impact on student success.”
Dr. Kahn is a Professor of Political Science, grant-writer, Fulbright Program Advisor and Director of the Academic Advisement and Information Center, the Research-Aligned Mentorship (RAM) Program, and First in the World.
She will be honored in Atlanta in February at the 36th Annual Conference on The First-Year Experience.
