Farmingdale RAM Video Goes Nationwide

When the White House calls, people listen!
Such was the case this past September, when Dr. Beverly Kahn received word that the White House was soliciting First in the World Grant recipients (of which FSC is one) to produce a video for a White House event. At that point, Dr. Erica J. Friedman, assistant project director for FSC’s Research-Aligned Mentorship (RAM) program took the lead, spearheading an effort to create the video.

Now, that same video has appeared in a nationally-distributed U.S. Department of Education newsletter, giving coast-to-coast exposure to RAM at Farmingdale. “I knew a video like this could help communicate to our RAM scholars how special this program is and how motivated our staff is to make their time here at Farmingdale a success,” says Dr. Friedman.
And the staff was indeed motivated. The video – which includes a contribution by Jose Donneys, FSC’s photographer/videographer – includes on-camera appearances by project director Dr. Kahn and the entire RAM staff, each of whom told the story about their piece of the program.
RAM is funded by a $2.9 million grant awarded to FSC last year. Funding, says Dr. Kahn, is being used to implement an ambitious effort to improve students’ learning experiences and graduation rates. The most distinctive aspect of the program is that it places students and their faculty mentors in hands-on research experiences both on- and off-campus in national laboratories, research universities, business accelerators and other research venues.
One thousand students will pass through the program during the grant’s four-year term, which began this semester.
