UCAWD Award Winner
October 31, 2016
The Norman Rowe McConney Jr. Award is a tribute to the outstanding achievements and contributions of a SUNY EOC student whose integrity, work ethic, and community stewardship reflect the mission and objectives of SUNY’s EOC’s and Outreach Centers.
The award was established by SUNY’s University Center for Academic Workforce Development (UCAWD) in commemoration of the legacy of Norman Rowe McConney Jr, longtime Chief-of-Staff for Arthur O. Eve. His efforts blazed the trail for numerous state statutes, policies, and budgets. He was a steadfast supporter of the EOC’s and ATTAIN project.
This year’s LIEOC recipient is Marie E. Velarde, in acknowledgement of having demonstrated integrity, leadership, and commitment to positively impacting the lives of her fellow students and her community. Marie successfully completed the English as a Second Language (ESL) program with a GPA of at least 3.0, and had exemplary staff and/or faculty and community references that spoke to her integrity, leadership, and commitment to improving the lives of others.
