Girl Power in STEM: Step It Up

Saturday, March 5; 9 a.m. to 2 p.m .
Stony Brook University, Engineering Building Lecture Hall 145

All are invited to learn about what various STEM careers are like for women. Celebrate International Women’s Day and the accomplishments of women in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).

International Women’s Day (IWD) emerged in New York in the early 1900s, a result of labor movements. IWD was first observed on March 8, during the United Nations International Women’s Year 1975. Two years later, the United Nations General Assembly proclaimed March 8 as the UN Day for women’s rights and world peace in December 1977. The UN theme for the IWD 2016 is Planet 50-50 by 2030: Step It Up for Gender Equality. Its focus will be on the implementation of sustainable goals and new commitments under UN Women’s Step it Up initiative, on women’s empowerment, gender equality and human rights.
