FSC Chips in to Clear the Air
October 12, 2015
The results are in from this year’s Long Island Car Free Day, and FSC was among the top LI colleges with pledges from students, staff, and faculty to leave their vehicles at home and find alternate means of transportation for the day. In fact, the number of pledges increased from 2014 by more than 170, from 49 to 221.
The campus also hosted the Car Free Day LI Rally a week before the event. Rosemary Mascali, Manager of Transit Solutions and Co-Chair of Car Free Day, was effusive in her praise of FSC’s efforts, for “providing a forum to educate the campus community and the public on the impact of single-occupancy vehicles on Long Island.”
Dr. Keen kicked off the rally, telling the assembled crowd: “I believe we can all agree that reducing vehicle traffic is good for the environment and has positive long-term effects. Getting involved with Car Free Day LI spurred the creation of a commuter website (farmingdale.edu/commuter) that provides information and encourages our nearly 10,000-person community to find alternative methods of getting to the campus.”
