Phone Scam Alert
October 5, 2015
Phone scams — whether for toner deals, printer verification, “Miscrosoft ” tech support or others — are reported by members of the campus from time to time.
Be on the alert for a current toner scam from a caller offering toner at a “reduced price” that we had “previously ordered but had arrived late. The caller may even ask for your P-Card number and have a few details about your department (in the report, a “John Wilson” referenced a recently purchased HP color printer). This particular caller provided a couple of phone numbers, including 1-800-450-3921 (an internet search found this on a bogus “Supply Services” website) and a campus extension that was a variation on this.
If you receive such a call you should terminate it quickly. Please notify the IT Helpdesk or University Police of these calls. If you choose, you may also file a complaint with the FTC (https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/#crnt).
