I got interested in the web track because I liked designing websites, the first thing people see how the website looks.  That how I got interested in this track by looking at websites to see each website is unique from each other and how they got the page to look that way.

As a senior, final semester in Farmingdale State College here what to expect in the web track in CPIS.

What to expect in CPIS:

  1. Need to know the basic languages– just like any major, in CPIS to test your skills and to see what you would like best. Make you take basic classes from the tracks they provide to see where you would like to end up in. For me it was the web track.
  2.  Must do a lot of projects– once you start taking 200-300 level classes the professor will test your skill in what they have covered in the semester. To see if you know what all they taught that semester.
  3.  Don’t be shy to ask help– the professor are they to help if you need any questions, they encourage you to ask for help. They want you to succeed in this major not see you fail.
  4.  Stay Active- Being active on campus allows you to take in all the campus needs to offer. You can find more stuff that interest you and use that as a tool to make yourself better. Join clubs, sports anything that can help make friends and have more knowledge of people around you.
  5.  Tutoring center- They are tutor for CPIS students as well, they will help you with studying, and homework. Because they also went through the same classes you went through so they will have a better understanding of what to study or work on.
  6.  Don’t wait till last minute- course load gets to be a lot as a senior and you should not wait till last minute with assignment. Many things can happen you program can fail, you thought it was easy but ends up being more than you expect to be. Always start working on it as soon as they assign it. Showing to the professor early for feedback is always good. They would know that you want to understand the material and get an A in the class.
  7.  Must have an internship- As your final semester comes you should have an internship so you can see how the real world looks like. And what they expect from their employees. It also looks great in applications when you are applying for jobs. Usually from an intern you can become a full time employee if they see the potential in you.
  8. Attend a job fair- Attending a job fair would very helpful to getting a job or internship. You can ask them what they are looking for and say your talents. They will ask you to apply online for them to see it digitally and call you for an interview. Which could lead you to getting hired there.

Senior year might be tough to begin with without the added pressure of finding a job and getting employed. But with your circle of friends and family, and the guided support from your professors you can make it through.

Have a great semester!

Happy Holidays!!!!

Congrats to all the seniors who are graduating this semester!!!
