This workshop, aimed at employers, will address the key indicators that define an employee from an independent contractor. Erica Chase, FSC’s SBDC director, is guest speaker at the event.

According to the National Labor Relations Board, employers must understand the difference between employees and independent contractors, and the common misconceptions related to them. Last year, the NLRB reviewed and revised the contractor vs. employee standards, raising more questions about who qualifies for contractor status.

Among the topics to be addressed include:
• How to differentiate between employees and independent contractors
• Understanding the difference between employment relationships and principal/contractor arrangements
• Ways to combat payroll tax fraud
• Resources to help classify workers
