Past Event

People are still debating whether the tomato is a vegetable or fruit, but there will be no disagreements about the best-in-class red delights at the Great LI Tomato Challenge, sponsored by Newsday and held at FSC.

Challengers are invited to bring their largest, smallest, and ugliest homegrown tomatoes to the competition. Entries will be weighed and judged by Newsday garden columnist Jessica Damiano. Winners will take home gift cards and other prizes, and there will be gift packs for kids up to 17 years of age.

The event is free.
