Toby Tobias – A Journey to Freedom Lecture

Thursday, March 28, 2019 11:00am Roosevelt Hall Little Theater
Past Event

South African singer/songwriter Toby Tobias will share his story of hope during a time of war and upheaval across three continents, from Johannesburg to Jerusalem, and lastly in the U.S.

In Journey from Johannesburg, Tobias tells the vivid tale of his life in South Africa under the rule of an apartheid government, then in an Israel on the brink of battle for it’s own identity, before finding a home, and many stark parallels, in the United States.

Tobias – who plays acoustic guitar and harmonica – has immersed himself in many genres of American music while holding on to his roots in the rhythms and melodies of his homeland. His keen ear for intuitive arrangements is a hallmark of his writing and performance.

“It is a distinct honor and I am so very excited to be performing my show Journey from Johannesburg for the combined faculty/student body of Farmingdale State College,” Tobias said. “ThisĀ  show is very dear to my heart and I look forward to showcasing the talents of my complete four-piece band.”

The event is free and open to the public.
