FSC’s Social Science Research Institute has been awarded a generous grant from the Horace and Amy Hagedorn Fund of the New York Community Trust, for the fifth consecutive year. The award will be used to continue social justice activities at the Institute’s Center for Social Justice.

The Horace and Amy Hagedorn Fund, and the Horace and Amy Hagedorn Foundation, have donated more than a half-million dollars to the SSRI over the past five years.

“The grant enables the SSRI to continue the facilitation of experiential learning opportunities for students through our many community partners,” said Dr. Miriam K. Deitsch, Distinguished Teaching Professor and director of the Social Science Research Institute. “Additionally, the donated funds will be used to expand the social justice and diversity dialogue, integrating community concerns with theoretical perspectives to enhance understanding of social justice issues as we work toward achieving equality and social justice.”

The Social Science Research Institute promotes excellence guided by ethics in fostering scientific and social advances. The Center for Civic Engagement and Service, and the Center for Information in the Public Interest, are the Institute’s other centers.
