Dr. Nick Menchyk, urban horticulture and design, will share a $5,000 grant with a colleague from Cornell University to produce YouTube videos about plant propagation.

Dr. Menchyk and Dr. Mark Bridgen are winners of the 2018 Innovative Teaching Award, given by the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU) Board on Agriculture Assembly Academic Programs Section. The award is intended to bolster innovation in post-secondary teaching of agriculture and related fields.

The project – “Using YouTube Videos to Teach Techniques in Plant Propagation” – allows the professors to produce short, educational YouTube videos about techniques in plant propagation, and post them online for their students to observe. Many educators believe students are more likely to watch online videos as a learning tool rather than read books and articles.
