Walking and Fundraising for Breast Cancer Awareness

TKE logoTwenty-nine members of Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity recently participated in the 24th Annual “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer” walk at Jones Beach. Not only did they have an outstanding showing – placing 66th among 1,316 teams – but TKE raised $3,303 to help fund breast cancer research.

The money raised – which was $2,303 above goal – “showed how hard the students at Farmingdale State College worked and how much of an impact this disease has on everyone,” said TKE President Michael Siska.

TKE was imaginative in the way it went about fundraising. They sponsored an event called “Bros in Bras,” where members wore bras and their TKE gear around campus to raise awareness and solicit donations. They also used online tools, and working with Sigma Delta Tau sorority raised $2,185.

TKE does other fundraising events. Each year they raise money for MADD at “Car Smash,” an event at which students demolish a car with sledgehammers, and on November 12 they will hold a flag football tournament to benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
