Farmingdale State College – in recognition of its efforts to reduce the campus community’s carbon footprint by promoting ridesharing, use of mass transit, bicycling and other means of alternative transportation – has been named a Clean Air Champion by 511NY Rideshare. The program is sponsored by the NYS Department of Transportation.

FSC also holds an annual Car Free LI Day rally in conjunction with the agency.

511NY Rideshare is New York State’s home for ride matching, commuter and traveler services. It provides information and resources to help commuters, travelers and employers find easy, affordable, and appealing alternatives to driving alone.

Transportation causes more than 30% of greenhouse gas emissions. With that in mind, Farmingdale promotes the benefits of 511NY Rideshare, including:

  • Saving time by using car pool lanes
  • Saving money by sharing commuting costs
  • Providing up-to-date information about commuting events and emergencies, such as HOV restrictions, weather emergencies, transit strikes and construction projects.
  • Check out the Commuter web page for more information.
